Foundational history

The Management School is based on three founding principles: “forward-looking culture with an international perspective”, “balance between the perspective of science and technology and the perspective of the humanities” and “carrying forward the national culture and strengthening overseas teaching capabilities”. Established in the academic year of 1998, the aim of the School is to fulfill the needs that arise from domestic economic development, to nurture all kinds of skills for business management, operational knowledge and research capabilities in an international arena of fierce competition, in order to promote the achievements and efficiency of our national economic development.

The departments currently established are the Department of International Business (including a Master’s Degree and a Doctorate Degree), the Department of Economics (including a Master’s Degree), the Department of Information Management (including a Master’s Degree), the Department of Finance (including a Master’s Degree), and the Department of Tourism and Leisure Enterprise Management. Five departments in total, four Master’s degrees, one Doctorate degree, and a degree program (the EMBA degree program).

In accordance with the domestic trends in economic development and internationalization, the School aims to nurture and engage with skills in international business management for international sales, international trade, international finance, international investment and international financial management, as well as research skills in business management issues and management theory. In the Republic of China in July 1, 1995, the School established the international business research institute Master’s Degree program, and on the next year the University Department was established. Then the Doctorate Degree program was established in 1999. In 2000, the Master’s Degree credit course was opened in Taichung, and in 2001 the special course for working professionals was established. In 2006 the Finance Department and Information Management were respectively established as Master’s degrees for working professionals.

Because of the national growing trends in industrial development and academia, Jinan University School of Management actively integrates within its campus a Department of Economics, a Department of Information Management, a Department of finance, and a Department of State Enterprise, with qualified teachers in the relevant economics, financial and computational domains. During the school year of 2007, three Master’s degrees for working professionals were combined, and the Executive Master of Business Administration was established (this is the EMBA degree program), and it was divided into three groups: “International business group”, “Finance group” and “Information management group”.

To implement the educational objectives of interdisciplinary learning, since the school year of 1998 the EMBA started to review the groups that were not divided, apart from the basic management course, and four specialized groups were added in the course plan, namely international business, financial risk, technology management, and tourism management. In total, 47 students enrolled.
